Taj Mahotsav, India

 

Taj Mahotsav is an annual 10-day event (February 18-27) at Shilpgram in Agra, India. The festival is inspired by the old Mughal era and the Nawabi style prevalent in Uttar Pradesh in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Arts and crafts

About 400 artisans from different parts of India will display their works of art. These include wood/stone carving from Tamil Nadu, bamboo/cane work from Northeast India, paper mache work from South India and Kashmir, marble and zardosi from Agra, wood carving fromSaharanpur, brassware from Moradabad, Handmade carpets from Bahadohi. Pottery from Khurja, chikan work from Lucknow, silk and zari from Varanasi, shawls and carpets from Kashmir/Gujarat, handprints from Farrukhabad and kanta stitching from West Bengal. Film production and various Bollywood media houses like Dhaivat Records & Productions also participate and manage artists in Mahotsav.

Culture

The festival begins with a road procession with elephants and camels decorated like victory bands of Mughal emperors and warlords. Drummers, trumpeters, folk dancers, skilled craftsmen and artisans also join the ranks. Artists from all over India come here to display their art and craft.
