International Kite Festival India

The International Kite Festival (Uttarayan) is one of the biggest festivals celebrated.

The festival of Uttarayan marks the day when winter begins to turn into summer, according to the Indian calendar
Many cities in Gujarat organize kite competitions among their citizens.
In 2012, the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat mentioned that the International Kite Festival in Gujarat was attempting to enter the Guinness World Records book due to the participation of 42 countries in it that year.
Since 1989, the city of Ahmedabad has been hosting the International Kite Festival as part of the official celebration of Uttarayan, which brings kite makers and master flyers from all over the world to showcase their unique creations and amaze the crowd with some very unusual kites.

Kites come in all shapes and sizes, and the main competition is battling with nearby kitesurfers to cut their strings and bring their kites down. For this, people find their favorite kite makers who prepare strong and durable kite bodies with bamboo spring frames and kite paper stretched to just the right tension. Finally, the kites are attached to a reel (or firkin) of manja, a special kite string coated with a mixture of glue and glass to be as sharp as possible to cut competing kite strings. The production of kites and kite paraphernalia can be seen on the streets of Ahmedabad starting in November in preparation for Uttarayan, and nowhere more so than at the Patang Bazaar, a special kite market that pops up in the old city. For the week leading up to the festival, it is open 24 hours a day for all kite lovers to stock up for the festivities.

Parents wake up at 5am on January 14th and start flying kites in ideal winds before dawn. The atmosphere is wonderfully festive as the entire family gathers on the rooftop, special dishes like laddoos, andiyo or surti jamun are prepared for the day's meal, and friends and neighbors meet for a group kite-flying experience. they are going. Most people look for which of their friends has a suitable terrace for kite flying and many gather there. This leads to a lot of social gatherings that wouldn't happen otherwise, as one's brother's friends meet their classmates' cousins because they're all gathered on a mutual friend's roof. At night, kitesurfers fly bright white kites to be seen in the dark, and skilled flyers fly their tokals with strings of lighted lanterns in a long line back to the roof. From early morning to late night, uttarayan offers many fun and beautiful sights to remember for a long time.
