Take in unrivalled coastal beauty at Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is a 47,000-acre Atlantic coast recreation area primarily on Maine's Mount Desert Island. Its landscape is marked by woodland, rocky beaches and glacier-scoured granite peaks such as Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the United States’ East Coast. Among the wildlife are moose, bear, whales and seabirds. The bayside town of Bar Harbor, with restaurants and shops, is a popular gateway.

Take in unrivalled coastal beauty at Acadia National Park
USA // The mountains meet the sea in this protected patch of eastern Maine that looks like an artist painted it. Waves crash against pink-coloured cliffs by the waterfront, while interior paths climb through deep-green forest to ridge tops where osprey and eagles fly overhead. The high point is Cadillac Mountain, the 466m (1530ft) peak from which early risers can catch the USA's first sunrise. Scenic ponds, carriage roads, bridges and teahouses fill out the pretty picture.
