Dive into a sheer shark abyss at Hammerhead Point

MALDIVES // Just to be clear: Hammerhead sharks rarely bite humans and have never killed anyone. So this bucket list dive is about awe, not adrenaline. And what awe! Dawn dives at Madivaru Corner, aka Hammerhead Point, mean hovering in the silent, half-dark waters waiting for a car-length hammerhead to emerge from the gloom and scrutinise you with its strange side eyes. From January to March, ocean currents push nutrients up from the deep, feeding the fish that in turn become hammerhead chow. The oceans are also clearest at this time of year, meaning dizzying visibility into the 200m (655ft) abyss below. Even if you miss the hammerheads, you'll still be joined by barracudas, grey reef sharks, dogtooth tuna and more along the outer reef.
