Gaze on the marvels of Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

SCOTLAND // Artistic, inquisitive, dressed in red sandstone and surrounded by a gorgeous park, Kelvingrove is Glasgow's best museum. And in a city where energy, culture and history bubble and fizz like freshly broached Irn-Bru, that's saying something. This grand Victorian cathedral of culture has an eccentric array of exhibits. You'll find fine art alongside stuffed animals, and Micronesian shark-tooth swords alongside a Spitfire plane - plus regular organ recitals. The mix can make your head spin, but rooms are thoughtfully themed, and if you want to focus on local highlights you can check out the rooms exploring the Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow School. Other highlights include French impressionist and Renaissance paintings. Even Salvador Dali has a spot here, with his superb Christ of St John of the Cross.
