Soar above Bogotá on the TransMiCable
COLOMBIA // High in the Andean Altiplano, Bogotá's sprawl climbs the mountains as far as the eye can see. The hilliness makes commuting tricky, especially for residents of the city's disadvantaged south side. But a brand-new cable car aims to connect locals - and vista-seeking visitors - from the southern Ciudad Bolívar district to the city's bus system. Dubbed the TransMiCable, the apple-red cable cars float 7200 passengers an hour above a patchwork of parks, plazas and pastel bungalows. You'll be treated to views across the urban plateau from mountaintop to mountaintop. At night, the city is as spangled with lights as the Milky Way. The 15-minute ride can shave hours off daily commutes for southern residents. Best of all, the solar-powered gondolas have almost no carbon footprint.
