Be spellbound by water giants and crystal trees at Swarovski Kristallwelten
AUSTRIA // At first glance Wattens seems like any other little Tyrolean village. But brace yourself for bling: here is Swarovski Kristallwelten, a sparkly-spangly world in which the famous crystal creators have unleashed the full force of their fantasy. A water-spouting giant welcomes you to the park, where the Crystal Cloud, bejewelled with 800,000 hand-mounted crystals, hovers above the glittering Mirror Pool. The Chambers of Wonder dazzle with such showstoppers as Silent Light by Alexander McQueen and Tord Boontje, a Narnia-like winterscape of snowflakes and crystal trees, and South Korean artist Lee Bul's Into Lattice Sun, a mind-bending crystal and mirror installation. Be sure to check out Brian Eno's geodesic Crystal Dome, where music and mirrors combine to extraordinary effect.
