Meander past dramatic seas and cliffs on the Cabot Trail

CANADA // The Cabot Trail is a looping, diving, dipping rollercoaster of a road that snakes for 297km (185 miles) around the northern tip of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Get ready for heart-stopping sea views at every turn, breaching whales just offshore, moose nibbling at the roadside and plenty of places to stop and hike. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes - Celtic and Acadian communities dot the area, and their foot- stompin', crazy-fiddlin' music vibrates through local pubs. Meanwhile, artists' workshops are scattered along the trail's southeastern flank: there are pottery, glass and pewter workers, painters and sculptors, and you can also discover living remnants of Mi 'kmaw and Acadian culture. Despite the winter snows, the trail is open year round.
