Gaze at the towering bronze Tian Tan Buddha
CHINA // When flying into Hong Kong, take a peek out of the window and you may spot this giant Buddha perched atop Lantau Island. There are larger Buddha statues elsewhere in the world, but none that are seated, outdoors or made of bronze like this one, weighing 250 tonnes and towering over 34m (112ft) high. Slog your way heavenwards up 268 steps to his bird's-eye throne and you will appreciate Lantau as Buddha sees it: gloriously green and pretty.
