Take in Shanghai's hypermodern skyline on the Bund

CHINA // The grand sweep of the riverside Bund is symbolic of colonial Shanghai, and remains the city's standout landmark. The Bund was the city's Wall Street, a place where fortunes were won and lost. Originally a towpath used for dragging barges of rice, it has been the first port of call for visitors since passengers began disembarking here more than a century ago. These days, it's the boutiques, bars and restaurants and the hypnotising views of the Pudong skyline that pull in the crowds.
