See divine forests and dolphins at Golfo Dulce

COSTA RICA // With a name aptly translating as 'Sweet Gulf', the Golfo Dulce is southern Costa Rica's vast, biodiverse inlet formed by the hammerhead-shaped Península de Osa (which encompasses Parque Nacional Corcovado, also on this list at #74). The divine tropical forest and lowland wet forest tract stretching around the inlet, rimmed by Pacific Ocean surf, includes the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve and Parque Nacional Piedras Blancas, which are home to some wonderful wilderness lodges. Recent efforts to protect waters around the gulf have won international acclaim for providing the scalloped hammerhead shark, humpback whale and four dolphin species with a safe haven.
