Discover Yves Saint Laurent's design legacy in Marrakesh
Marrakesh, a former imperial city in western Morocco, is a major economic center and home to mosques, palaces and gardens. The medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, with mazelike alleys where thriving souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry. A symbol of the city, and visible for miles, is the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque.

Discover Yves Saint Laurent's design legacy in Marrakesh
MOROCCO // As the sun dances over the bamboo groves and amplifies the electric blue of the art deco studio, it's plain to see why Yves Saint Laurent fell in love with the Jardin Majorelle. He and his partner Pierre Bergé bought the villa and its gardens to preserve the vision of original owner Jacques Majorelle. Today, while admission queues may be growing (come at 8am if you can), there's little that can diminish the soul-soothing charms of the garden's pools, pavilions and globetrotting flora. Inside, the Musée Berbère beautifully displays Bergé and Saint Laurent's collection of tribal artefacts, including jewellery, textiles and woodwork. Next door, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent is an architecturally daring repository for the designer's haute couture collections.
