Gawk at the grisly monastic art of Sedlec Ossuary

CZECH REPUBLIC // The macabre bone church' in the basement of former Cistercian monastery Sedlec Abbey would stretch the imagination of the most accomplished gothic horror novelist. Garlands of skulls hang from its vaulted ceiling, bones adorn the altar, and pyramids of bones squat in each of the corner chapels. Who would have thought it was all the work of a local woodcarver, let loose on Sedlec in 1870 with the bones of 40,000 to 70,000 people found in the old abbey crypt? Creepy, yes - but utterly entrancing, nonetheless.
