Buckle up for a wild road trip on Norway's Trollstigen

NORWAY // A brake-screeching, gear-crunching monster of a mountain road, the 55km (34-mile) Trollstigen (Troll's Path) wiggles precariously around 11 hairpin bends. It's shockingly steep, narrow and serpentine - especially when you have to reverse for oncoming traffic - as if a troll has cleft the earth to reveal ragged peaks and thrust down a thin ribbon of road almost as a joke. The highest point is 858m (2815ft) Stigrora, with sensational views of the surrounding wilderness, close to the crash-bang spectacle of Stigfossen falls.
