Witness high, dry drama in volcano Teide National Park
Parque Nacional del Teide
SPAIN // Spain's most popular national park isn't actually in Europe - it's located 320km (200 miles) off the coast of North Africa on the arid island of Tenerife. Here lies the country's highest mountain, 3718m (12,198ft) El Tide, whose massive volcanic hump dominates the whole island and whose brooding silhouette casts the world's largest shadow over the surrounding sea. The park's dramatic lunar landscapes attract around four million annual tourists. Most take a cable-car up the mountain leaving the abundant trails refreshingly light on foot traffic.
