Shop in a 15th century mall in the Grand Bazaar

TURKEY // Entering the Grand Bazaar, as centuries of browsers and Silk Road traders have done before you, greets your senses with the force of a commercial carnival. Stalls are piled with Turkish carpets, floral- patterned Ottoman tiles, lokum (Turkish delight), handcrafted jewellery, Uzbek silk and more. It can be overwhelming, but the shopkeepers are generally not as brash as their reputation suggests, and hagglers get a cup of çay tea. You could spend hours on these vaulted lanes, drifting between the caravanserais and cafes of this self-contained world.
