Climb aboard for glacier-capped Jungfraujoch
SWITZERLAND // If you haven't heard of Jungfraujoch, you need to get on board. There's a reason why more than a million people a year venture up 3454m (11,332ft) to Europe's highest train station. The icy wilderness of deeply crevassed glaciers and 4000m (13,120ft) turrets that unfolds at the top is out of this world. Within the sci-fi Sphinx meteorological station, you'll find viewpoints and an Ice Palace gallery of other-worldly sculptures. The phenomenal journey is the icing on the cake: the last stage of the cogwheel train ride burrows an audacious route right through the heart of the Eiger, delving into a tunnel that took 3000 men 16 years to drill, back in 1912.
