Hike through the night to watch dawn break over sacred Adam's Peak

SRI LANKA // Pilgrims have been climbing Sri Pada (Adam's Peak) for centuries. Christians come to see the spot where Adam allegedly first set foot on earth after being cast out of paradise; Buddhists come to see the huge footprint of Buddha that crowns the peak. As you set off in the pre-dawn chill you'll follow a dotted line of pilgrim's torches bobbing uphill through the darkness. Time your walk well and you'll arrive on the summit just in time to catch the first blush of dawn crashing across the waves of ridges surrounding the holy mountain. This is communal hiking at its most jovial.
