The Route to The Site

You will have to go to the Tabas first via plane, bus or even car. If you are choosing a car, then in that case the closest route that will take you to Kanale Jeni is from Tehran to Semnan and then off to Tabas. Keep in mind that there are multiple ways but you can reach there. 

Also, you can go to the northern part of Ashgabat city via the asphalt road and then about 20 km from there you will see a waterway where on your left side you will be able to see the Azmeighan River. Continue your way by the waterway for almost five km and then you will be able to see the Kanale Jeni Valley. 

Another way is by taking the road for about 26 km towards the North of Tabas city and leaving the main road you can enter the village and after nine km you will be entering the entrance of the river valley. You will have to continue for three more km and then you will reach your destination.

The History of Kanale Jeni

As a result of many factors, the formation of the Kanale Jeni has been affected. Factors such as soft erosion of the bed, the longitudinal slope of the fine river as well as permanent uplifts and the seasonal rains inspire all these the site has got itself a beautiful phenomenon over the years gradually. 

Do you know that the Azmeighan River originally originates from the Camel Mountains that lie in the northern part of the Tabas?  The river is low at its start but as it joins other rivers on its way it flows from the mountain to the Tabas plain.

And today there is a dam that controls the flow of the water for agricultural purposes as well in this region. On the other hand, the Camel Mountains are also affected and there are many faults which have been formed exactly parallel to one another.

The faults are sloppy towards the northeastern part. You will even see some sediments of the alluvium that flow extend from its parts towards the plain itself. This is the reason behind the river getting deeper and having many twists. 

Why Is It Called Kanale Jeni? 

According to locals and some visitors, the site is scary as it is created with the help of flood and water flow. Some believe that jinn or ghosts have been living on the site hence they named it Kanale Jeni. If you visit the site and you pass from the cracks of the valley you will be able to hear strange sounds that at times are weird and scary.

It is nothing but the sound of the wind blowing between the stones and their cracks but according to locals, it is the sound of the jinn. 

There is a different belief as well. According to some other group of people during the era of the followers of Mithraism, they chose this great valley for their worship and as a result, a rumour was spread that the valley is haunted to make visitors scared and avoid them from getting there.
