Visit Torres del Paine National Park
Torres del Paine National Park is a national park of mountains, glaciers, lakes and rivers in southern Patagonia, Chile. Cordillera del Paine is the center of this park. This area is located in a transition zone between the Magellan sub-polar forests and the Patagonian steppes. The park is located 112 km (70 mi) north of Puerto Natales and 312 km (194 mi) north of Punta Arenas. This park borders Bernardo O'Higgins National Park from the west and Los Glaciers National Park from the north in Argentina. Paine means "blue" in the indigenous Tehuelche (Aonikenk) language and is pronounced PIE-neh, while Torres means "tower". It was established as a national park in 1959.
Torres del Paine National Park is part of the Sistema Nacional de Áreas Silvestres Protegidas del Estado de Chile (National System of Protected Forest Areas of Chile). In 2013, its area was approximately 181,414 hectares (700 sq mi). This park is one of the largest and most visited parks in Chile. The park averages about 252,000 visitors annually, 54% of whom are foreign tourists who come from many countries around the world. It is also part of the end of the world route, a tourist attraction.
The park is one of the 11 protected areas of the Magallanes and Antarctic region of Chile (along with four national parks, three national reserves and three national monuments).
