Bergen International Festival is an annual international music and cultural festival in Bergen(Western Norway), Norway.

Biography

The Bergen International Festival is the largest festival of its kind in the Nordic countries and has a large number of activities in the fields of music, dance, literature, visual arts, folklore and more. It starts in June and is located in several locations such as Grieg Hall, Haakon Hall, Troldhagen, Leeson, Siliostol as well as the streets and squares of Bergen. At the same time, the international jazz festival, Nattjazz, takes place in Bergen.

The first festival started on June 1, 1953, exactly 55 years after its predecessor and source of inspiration, the first music festival in Norway, Edvard Grieg's Bergen Music Festival, which started on June 26, 1898. Its model was the Salzburg Festival and the initiative was achieved. Part of opera singer Fanny Elstad. The original director of the festival was Frank Middlefalch from 1951 to 1957. Kristen Granbog, who died in 1955, also played an important role in the first edition of the festival.
