Hogmanay Scotland

Hogmanay is the Scottish word for the last day of the old year and is synonymous with celebrating the New Year the Scottish way. More celebrations typically follow on New Year's morning (January 1) or, in some cases, January 2 (a Scottish bank holiday).

The origin of Hogmanay is uncertain, but it may have been derived from Norse and Gaelic winter solstice ceremonies. Customs vary across Scotland and usually involve gift-giving and visits to the homes of friends and neighbours, with special attention paid to the first guest of the new year.
